Title: When Your Life Becomes Reality TV
Author: drugabuse.com
Text Type: Article
Date Finished: 31/8/17
Summary
This article is about a man from Philadelphia overdosing on a packed bus before being administered Narcan while being streamed live.
Personal Response
This article shows that drugs can affect you at anytime in any place. It says " a young man in Philadelphia is videotaped shooting up and falling off his seat on a overcrowded bus", Then the video cuts to a police officer administrating him Narcan which is an antidote. We that this is a terrible problem soon made worse because the video quickly went viral after the Police tweeted the video. This links to people in New Zealand who don't care if they do drugs in public because this has been seen with those people at a park in the North Island who have passed out due to a drug and one person is laying on the ground with foam coming from his mouth.
This article also shows us that the media does not care about embarrassing people by posting these videos and pictures of drug use on the news and photos in the paper. For example "I get treated like a second class citizen", says one person because of a long-held stereotype that portrays chemical dependency as a moral failing. We see this because only a few months ago on News hub they showed a video of two guys who had passed out on a bench with a bong in one guys hand and a packet of drugs on the bench. This a very disturbing video to post on the news which some kids watch, it is showing them terrible images of what affects drugs can have on a person and in some cases children witness the effects of drugs and alcohol on a daily basis. This links to the New Zealand Media because they have done the exact same thing as the Police in America posting a video of a person using drugs and reacting just like in the last 6 months the New Zealand media have posted to explicit videos of drug use their was they one about the guys at a playground and their was also a video uploaded about a young mother who is high on the new zombie drug and we were clearly shown that their are baby toys and equipment surrounding her and I wouldn't be surprised if she has used these drugs or been on them in the presence of her child/children. This is exposing her kid to self inflicted drug harm and this could lead to abuse to the child and could lead to physical and mental scars or it could impact the child's future because the child could be addicted to drugs or could be to scared to interact with people which would be hard for the child to get a job especially if it involves social skills.

Title: Noughts & Crosses
Author: Malorie Blackman
Text Type: Novel
Date Finished: 31/8/17
Summary
Noughts & Crosses is a book about slavery and human rights but they have put a spin on it by having the Black people(Crosses) in power and the White people(Noughts) as the slaves.
Personal Response
This book is about slavery and human rights with a twist. Instead of having the black people as slaves which is what happened in real life but they turned it around to give whites a feeling of what it was like for the ancestors of the black people who lived in the olden day. We see this when Callum who is a Nought boy who is dreaming about living in nice mansions like the Crosses but when he awakes into reality he says " I live in a three up, two down house", which looks like a shack representing his home. This links to a lot of countries that treat mostly middle east people like garbage and they don't give them equal rights as white people and they judge them on where they are from and what nationality they are instead of the person that they really are, just like the white people treated the black people in the cotton fields.
Noughts and Crosses shows us that the black people never had the same rights as the white people had. We see this when Callum gets excepted into a nice classy Cross school and on his first day he is attacked and bullied by all the Crosses because in their words they don't want a "animal" roaming around their school and they want him to go back to were he was from because he's not good enough to stay at the school, even the teachers didn't like the Nought student. We see this when Sephy who is friends with Callum tries to go eat with him and gets food thrown at her by the students and one of the teachers grabs her by the arm and pulls her away from the table before giving he a punishment. This links to American people that think that any middle eastern person is a terrorist and that they think that any middle eastern person in a school is planning an attack.

Title: No Good
Author: Helen Orme
Text Type: Short Story
Date Finished: 4/8/17
Summary
No good is based on a girl named Marie who is constantly bet up by her boyfriend Jay who is suspected to be a constant user of drugs.
Personal Response
The book started out about a normal family living in a normal neighbourhood before it took a dark turn. The book started off about a young girl named Marie and her family that was until they mentioned the boyfriend whose name was Jay. The Author portrayed Jay as a bully who likes to use his strength and power to rule his partner. We see this when he does not allow Marie to go see her old friends cause he fears that she might expose him for the monster that he truly is and he's worried that he is losing his power over her. The Author has linked this to the modern day world because this is happening all over the world but is a big factor with the gangs because they force these girls to do stuff that they normally wouldn't do but they are to scared to speak up about it or are on drugs and do not know what is happening.
The effects of drugs and/or alcohol can effect not only the user but the people close to the user. In this case where Marie gets effected by Jays use of alcohol because she is being forced into doing things and she is being held captive in her own life not being able to go out anywhere or even mail people online. This is seen when Jay goes as far as killing on of Marie's friends because he does not want her hanging out with him because he fears that she would spill his secret about how he bets her up. This shows us that Jay is a really dangerous person in the community and is willing to do anything to keep his secret untold to anyone. This links to a lot of communities in the modern day era with a rise of violence caused by people trying to get money for drugs or alcohol or they are high on drugs/ drunk on alcohol.

Title: Gridiron Gang
Author:Phil Joanou
Text Type: Film
Date Finished: 18/6/17
Summary
Gridiron Gang is a movie about how a juvy officer turned troubled youths lifes around by teaching them the rules of Gridiron and the responsibilities of teamwork and trust.
Personal Response
I was shocked when The Rock(Dwayne Johnson) who plays the juvy officer that helps these troubled boys, he comes up with the idea to let these boys have a second chance and be in a Gridiron team together I thought he was crazy because there were boys who were in different gangs and crews. The part i'm referring to is when Dwayne says "On the Gridiron, we do it my way, not your way. Your way got you here. Whatever gang you claim, whatever hood you're from, this is your hood now. Why don't we call peace here". This shocked me because even though they have all these differences between there gangs they decided to put that behind them and work together. This relates to me because it's the same with our Canterbury team even though all our different clubs have problems/rivalry's with each other we have put that aside and became one and became brothers.
I really respected The Rock(Dwayne Johnson) with his work-ethic and resilience with these boys. Even though he en counted hurdles and obstacles along the way he still stuck strong and to his words. He went through budget cuts, team problems and had to overcome stereotypes he still stayed with them. He made a big difference on his own from changing to 10% getting released and staying out of jail to 75-80%. I relate to that by having to over come injuries, concussions, not having the numbers at training and put-downs but I keep trying and we manage to pull through but that is nothing compared to what these boys had to go through

Analysing Interpersonal Skills
Video 1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuaV6UKtP0s
Video 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1rdrS0yIII
1. The Coach in video 1 was intense and was yelling which doesn't get the message across clearly unlike the Coach in video 2 who talked in a soft tone and a suitable volume and explained things clearly.
2a. Coach 1 - He was not successful because the kids didn't listen to him because he was always yelling at them which caused them not to understand him.
Coach 2 - He was successful because he explained everything clearly and talked in a calm voice and in a suitable volume.
3a. Coach 2 is more successful because he makes sure that his team understands and he speaks clearly cause he doesn't yell.

Title: Remember The Titans
Director: Boaz Yakin
Text Type: Film
Date Finished: 2/3/17
Summary
Remember The Titans is a movie which is based on a true story about how a mixed race American Football team overcame racism and all the crap that was going on when America first mixed there cultures.
Personal Response
I relate to this movie because it shows how hard trying new things in the real world is and how different people act. The movie was showing that these young boys just wanted to play the game the aspire to do as maybe a job when they are grown and that they'll try anything for this to work. The blacks do this by joining the team even though that the whites have all signed up and they done it anyways because they love the game that much. I link to this because I sign up for sports even though older and better players have signed up because I love playing sport that much that it's better to try and not get in then no trying because you'll definitely not getting in.
I was shocked when the black members of the team were denied access into a white mans establishment and were told by the owner that he would rather serve animals than let a single black person dine in his restaurant. This is seen when the team goes out and celebrates after there first win and after they have learnt to trust each other. I link to this because whenever I get into a team with people that are older and better I always get accepted no matter how big, good or old I am and they acknowledge these things about me and they help me out and treat me with respect just like how they would like to be treated by myself.

Title: Sonny Ball
Author: Paul Muckley
Text Type: Biography
Date Finished: 31/3/17
Summary
This book is about the NRL career and life of Sonny Bill Williams.
It speaks about all the problems and controversy of him changing codes and changing teams.
It shows he wasn't money hungry but just wanted to experience new sports, codes and team environments.
Personal Response
I related to Sonny Bill himself because we both had to make a difficult choice in thinking about changing teams/sports. He wanted to make a move over the ditch to Super Rugby at the Chiefs and I wanted to move clubs from Hornby Panthers to Linwood Keas. It was a hard choice for him because he had mad a massive fan club in the NRL and it was hard for me because my family plays for Linwood but all my mates play for Hornby. It just shows me how family and communities are so loyal and that its a hard choice to think about changing teams.
This text gave me insight into how people have to make difficult choices in every day activities. Just having to make a difficult choice in sport would be easy compared to choices presidents have to make. It would be easy because sports decisions only effect you and your team but choices from presidents effects a whole country, I'm linked to this because both effect me.
I was shocked when Sonny just dumped his manager for a new one like he was nothing. When he didn't get his manager to understand his point of view. So he decided to go out and get him a new manager. Non-surprisingly he got the same manager as his good mate boxer Mundine. He just walked out because he wasn't being treated fairly and he made the best move because he has experienced new things that weren't available at the Bulldogs like playing for the All Blacks in the World Cup win and playing in the 2016 Olympics on the New Zealand Sevens team. I link to this because I have left a team when I was younger because I left my Union team and I went to League and I've experienced so many things that I would've never gotten to try if I was still back at Union.

Newtons Laws
28/3/17
1. Who is Isaac Newton - Isaac Newton was a famous Mathematician/Scientist and discovered gravity and invented the 3 Laws of motion.
2. List the three laws of motion - First one is the law of inertia the second is force = Mass x Acceleration and the last one is equal and opposite.
The Law Of Inertia - When an object has stopped moving it will stay at stationery and when it is in motion it will stay moving the only way for it to stop being in motion is if an unbalanced force e.g(Friction/Drag) it will slow down and the only way it will speed up is if a push force acts upon it e.g the wind blowing at your back. It is just like if you were up in space your non stop moving or in motion just like if your in motion on a swing your non stop moving unless a unbalanced force acts upon you like friction of your feet dragging on the ground to slow down.
Acceleration - To figure out the force being acted upon a certain object you times the mass by the speed/acceleration. You can also figure out the net force when you have an unbalanced force by just figuring out how much bigger one of the forces are than the other e.g say the friction force is 2000 N and the push force is 3500 N there is a net force of 1500 N going forward and if the forces are balanced e.g 500 N for friction and 500 N for push there is No Net Force. Every force is measured in Newtons (N).
Action and Reaction - For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means that in every action there is a pair of forces acting upon on the to objects. The size of the force on the first object must be the same on the second object which is where they get the equal part from. When you sit down your body puts a force on the chair and the chair puts a force up towards your body which lets you stay still and means they are equal. The same as if you put a book on a table the table pushes a force up and the book pushes a force down.
3 Give a sports example of each law.
The Law Of Inertia - When swinging on a swing you stay in motion which is what the law of inertia is all about.
Acceleration - To find out how fast the rally car is going.
Action and Reaction - The two forces on both sides of a scrum must be equal to hold the scrum up.
30/3/17
1. Describe Newtons Law 1 - The Law of inertia is the first law and is about when something is in motion it will stay in motion unless an unbalance force acts upon it.
Example - When your still at the start of a sprint your in inertia cause your stopped cause your hands are still and when you remove your hands you over come inertia because your weight is falling forward.
2. Describe Newtons Law 2 - The law of acceleration is about when accelerating you enter a constant motion.
Example - When accelerating in motion you need to continue running past the finish line why slowing down so you don't injure yourself. to find force use the formula force=mass x acceleration.
3. Describe Newtons Law 3 - The third law is action and reaction and every action has a equal and opposite reaction.
Example - When the sprinter is pushing off the ground they will need to push down and back so you can go forward.

8c. The neck is an example of a Pivot joint.
8d. Thumbs are an example of a Saddle joint.
9. Muscles work in pairs: the prime mover pulls bones together to close the joint this is called agonist the muscle that pulls bones apart to open the joint is called antagonist.
10. What is the muscle pair for A) The Hip - Hip Flexors and Gluteous Maximus, B) The Knee - Hamstring and Quadriceps, C) The Elbow - Triceps and Biceps.

Assessment Practice
This image is of an athlete running "Running involves flexion and extension of both the hip and knee.
When the extends and flexes it requires movement of the muscles in pairs. The pairs required are the gluteous maximus and hip flexors.
For hip extension the prime mover or the against muscle is the gluteous maximus. When this contracts the hip flexors stretch/relax this is known as the antagonist.
For hip flexion the opposite is true. The hip will be stretched or relaxed while the gluteous maximus is contracting out. This is known as agonist.

1.3 Quality Performance
Breaking Down The Technique
Discus
1- Grip- Space out the fingers around the surface of the discus and have the tips curled round the edge of the discus.
Fingers facing downwards when getting ready to throw the discus.
2-Stance- Have your legs spread apart with your leg that you push of at the back.
Have your hips twisted (towards the back) and have the arm with the discus behind your back and then swing through and release and have your arm follow through.
Don't step out the front of the circle or it will be classed as a No throw.
3-Spin- Start by facing backwards with feet together then do a whole 360 spin the put your strong foot out then spin and release.
Javelin
1-Grip- There are three types of grip. 1 of them is the American grip where you just form a fist around the javelin.
2-Stance- You have to stand with your body facing straight with the javelin high above your shoulder, then start running and speed up smoothly towards the line, run with your hips at 90 degrees towards the target, then put your left foot in-front of your right foot before digging your left heel into the ground and pushing off your right and throwing at a 45-50 degree angle into the air.
If the point doesn't land in the ground it is classed as a No throw
Shot-Put
1-Grip- The Power throw. Grip the shot-put in your hand with fingers underneath the shot-put and put it up against your neck with elbow being straight.
2-Stance- Have your left foot at the front with your right leg behind then twist your hips and bend your right leg while keeping your elbow straight then push through with your arm and release when your arm is fully extended. Don Not Through It. Push It
3-Spin- Start out at the back of the circle and facing backwards. Then do a 360 spin moving towards the front of the circle and then push your throwing arm through and release when arm is fully extended.
Long-Jump
1-Run-Up- Start off with a drive or push off the start then move into a tall position and get to the board as fast as possible, Then place your foot in the middle of the board so you do not foul and the push off your leg and the try land on your feet and lean forward so you don't fall back and lose distance.
